Understanding Particle Size

Micron grade is not the same as D50

Micron grade

The nominal fineness used to name a product – usually a top cut or sieve pass. It is not the same as D50.

D50

The median particle size: half of the particles by volume are finer than this value.

D90

90% of the particles are finer than this value.

D97

97% of the particles are finer than this value – often used as the practical top cut.

Size & Industry Guide

All D50, D90, D97 and chemical values are published only after approval by our laboratory. Grades below 5 µm are listed for reference and their availability must be confirmed.
